How your support makes a difference
Grant supports Radiology Team
Thanks to a charity grant, a Vascular Sonographer has been able to increase her knowledge of specialist areas such as Endovascular arteriovenous fistulas (EAF). Melissa Barbour, attended the Society for Vascular Technology’s Annual Scientific Meeting following an award from the Diagnostic Imaging Fund.
EAF is an abnormal connection of vessels in the tissues around the brain or spinal cord in which one or more arteries are directly connected to one or more veins or venous spaces called sinuses.
Work by the Vascular Sonograpy Team assists in the diagnosis of disorders, including transient ischaemic attack (TIA); stroke; aneurysmal disease; peripheral arterial disease varicose veins, vascular malformations and deep vein thrombosis.
Charity funding for continuous professional development such as Melissa’s helps staff to provide high quality, compassionate care.
Chaplaincy donations support bereaved families
Our funds support areas across the Trust including Chaplaincy & Spiritual Care which supports the pastoral, spiritual and religious needs of our patients, family, friends, staff and volunteers. Donations help to enhance the Team’s vital work which includes the Chaplaincy’s annual ‘Butterfly Memorial Service’ which supports families bereaved by baby loss.
The service includes music, prayers, lighting of candles and a roll call of names of each child. The service is not only for those parents whose children have died at the hospital, but for any parents who would like to use the service as an opportunity to remember their child, wherever or whenever they died.
