Charity funding brings boost to staff rest areas at Shirley Clinic

Thanks to a generous grant from Croydon Health Charity’s Health and Wellbeing Fund, staff at Shirley Clinic are enjoying refreshed and improved rest areas designed to support their wellbeing at work.

The improvements include upgraded furniture and practical additions like new kitchen equipment—creating a more comfortable and welcoming environment for breaks. These changes were shaped by staff feedback and aim to give the opportunity for staff to take a moment to rest between busy shifts.

Dawn Vieyra, Building Manager at Shirley Clinic said:

“We’re so appreciative of the funding to make these changes and the staff working in Shirley Clinic are over the moon with it. These small improvements can make a real difference to how people feel about coming to work and we’re really grateful for the opportunity to give our teams a nicer space for their breaks.”

This project supports one of Croydon Health Charity’s core priorities: helping NHS staff to thrive, recognising that supporting the wellbeing of our people is essential to the care we provide.

Shiala Mirza, Head of Occupational Health and Wellbeing and the fundholder who helped to make these improvements a reality said:

“We’re so pleased to see some of our ambitions to improve our community spaces become a reality. As well as making the best use of charitable funding, the support of the Health and Wellbeing Fund reflects our Trust-wide commitment to making Croydon a great place to work—one of our five strategic objectives—by investing in the spaces and resources that help colleagues feel valued, supported and cared for.”
