Croydon Health Charity celebrates major milestone in Memory Lane dementia appeal

Croydon Health Charity is celebrating a significant milestone in its flagship Memory Lane Appeal, having now raised over £100,000 towards its plans to develop the first ever dementia-friendly garden at the borough’s biggest NHS hospital.
The charity launched the £157,000 appeal in late 2024 to fund the creation of a new garden space at Croydon University Hospital, with the aim of providing a calming, therapeutic environment to support patients with dementia whilst in hospital.
As well as promoting physical recovery and reducing anxiety, it is hoped that the peaceful environment will bring moments of joy to patients, their families and NHS staff, many of whom currently lack access to green space outdoors.
Now more than halfway to the target, the project is well on its way to becoming a reality – with an artist’s impression of the space recently revealed.
Christina Clynes, Director of Communications and Fundraising at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, said:
“This is a hugely exciting moment for everyone involved. Reaching £100,000 shows the power of both our fundraising efforts and our supporters, demonstrating and how much people care about improving the experiences of people living with dementia in Croydon. We’re so grateful to everyone who has donated so far, including our generous donors from the Croydon 60+ Benevolent Fund Ltd, Surrey Freemasons
Circle Health Group, Saturday Hospital Fund and FDD International.
“But we still have a way to go – and we’re calling on our amazing local community to help us cross the finish line by the end of this year.
“We’d love to see even more people stepping up to support the appeal – whether that’s by taking on your own challenge, donating online, or simply sharing our story to help raise awareness.”
To help reach the appeal’s target by December 2025, the charity has launched its first-ever walking challenge, a 10km community ‘Move for Good’, this September. Funds raised through this campaign will go directly towards the Memory Lane project in its inaugural year and local residents can sign up here https://buytickets.at/croydonhealthcharity/1590763.
The charity is also working closely with local residents, schools and businesses to inspire more support. From sponsored walks and bake sales to corporate giving and online donations, there are many ways to get involved.
