Funding boost for Croydon’s Rainbow Health Service helps tackle local health inequalities

Croydon Health Charity has secured vital funding to support some of the borough’s most vulnerable residents, thanks to a grant from the London Churches Refugee Fund (LCRF).

The £900 grant will fund food and toiletry packs for adult refugees temporarily housed in local accommodation. These essential items will be distributed by Croydon Health Services NHS Trust’s Rainbow Health Team, who provide essential health care to those experiencing or at risk of homelessness across the borough.

The grant directly supports one of Croydon Health Charity’s strategic priorities – tackling the health inequalities that most affect local people – and enhances the Trust’s existing homeless health provision, going above and beyond what can be funded through statutory services.

Jamal Smith-John, Service Manager for Rainbow Health Service, and Noma Ndhlovu, Lead Nurse for Rainbow Health Service, at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, welcomed the grant. They said:

“Our teams see first hand the impact that fleeing conflict and claiming asylum can have on a person’s health. Having access to basic items like food and toiletries can make a real difference in helping people live with dignity and focus on their health and wellbeing. As well as providing vital medical treatment, this funding means we can continue to offer compassionate and practical support when it’s most needed.”

Croydon Health Charity is helping local people of all ages, from all walks of life, to have the best possible experience of the NHS, actively working to raise funds that go beyond NHS resources and supporting projects that improve care, transform spaces and promote equality in health for Croydon residents.
