Our Memory Lane Dementia Garden is now open!
We are delighted to announce that our new Memory Lane Garden is now open; a dedicated dementia-friendly space designed to enhance care and support for patients.
Joined by colleagues, donors and supporters of our charity, and, in particular our Dementia Garden appeal, we were immensely proud to welcome our guests to enjoy the beautiful, calming and restorative space that the garden provides. We were also treated to performances of classics songs; 'Moon River' and 'Sweet Caroline' by local choir; Singing for the Brain, who had us all joining in and waving our arms!
Located beside the Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) Ward, the former unused space, has had the most incredible transformation and we just couldn’t wait to celebrate the garden and all those who have made it possible.
We welcomed guests from our partner organisations to the event, including representatives from Croydon Dementia Action Alliance and Croydon Council, and heard talks from Consultant Geriatrician Dr Jas Virdee, and our NED and Chair of the Charitable Funds Committee, Rona Nicholson, who has lived experience of dementia through family and friends.
A special thanks goes to Sharling Bovell, our Lead Dementia Nurse, for her expertise and passion throughout the project - she has been a key driver in this collaborative project and I’m sure is extremely proud to see the garden open after her and many other people’s hard work that has made it happen.
A huge thank you, also, to Dave, our incredible volunteer gardener, who brought the space to life and is already thinking about what spring bulbs to plant! His passion and energy for the project has been truly inspiring.
Thank you again to everyone who donated, fundraised, shared and supported the appeal. This generosity has created a lasting legacy that will benefit patients and their families for years to come.
